Do prvního představení se přihlásili jako první zástupci designérského studia inCUBE a protože se chtěli zúčastnit tohoto rozhovoru oba, vznikl tento rozhovor ve trojici. Na našem serveru vítám Štěpána Šuberta a Vojtu Tremčinského, majitele studia inCUBE:

Kdy jste založili studio, kolik bylo zakladatelů a máte zaměstnance?

Štěpán: Oficiálně jsme studio založili s mým obchodním partnerem Vojtou Tremčinským v létě roku 2008. Známe se už od základní školy, ale Vojta odletěl studovat do Anglie International Baccalaureate a pak vysokou školu Imperial College London a přerušili jsme spolu kontakt.

Vojta: Pak jsme se asi po třech letech úplně náhodou potkali, zašli jsme na kafe, k našemu překvapení zjistili, že děláme úplně stejný obor a během měsíce jsme udělali první společný web. Rozhodli jsme se začít spolupracovat a za pár měsíců jsme spolu založili studio. Zakladatelé a majitelé jsou tedy dva.

Štěpán: Full-time zaměstnance zatím nemáme, ale některé věci outsourcujeme freelancerům. Dostali jsme se ale do fáze, kdy chceme firmu rozšířit a začínáme intenzivně hledat zaměstnance. Problém je, že kvalitních designerů a programátorů je málo a jsou již rozebráni většími společnostmi, které si mohou dovolit platit daleko víc, než malá studia díky přísunu peněz z velkých zakázek. Potenciál, ale vidím v nových tvářích, takže pokud myslíte, že Vaše práce je alepoň stejně dobrá jako naše, určitě pište!

Jaké byly vaše začátky?

Štěpán: Vlastně jsem s grafikou začal už na základní škole, kdy jsem navštěvoval 7 let výtvarnou školu umění v Náchodě, ale to jsem ještě netušil, že jednou budu designer. V podstatě to byla náhoda, protože jsem měl v plánu být psycholog.

Vojta: Design (ať už grafický či softwarový) se ale s psychologií dnes už dost protíná, takže pokud chcete být na špici, musíte dnes mít taky minimálně slušnou znalost Gestaltské psychologie. Já jsem s webem a grafikou začal zhruba před 10ti lety, dělal jsem weby pro malé firmičky, navrhoval a sázel školní časopis. Těsně před exilem do Anglie jsme se Štěpánem dokonce natočili videoklip pro jeho kapelu (ale kvůli mně jsme už nestihli postprodukci). Po škole jsem prošel několika agenturami jako webdesignér / programátor, ale po založení studia jsem odešel do designerského důchodu a věnuju se vývoji, Štěpán totiž ty designy kouzlí, s čímž se nedá soupeřit :-).

Štepán: Takovou chválu si snad ani nezasloužím ;), rozhodně na začátku jsme pracovali cca 10 hodin denně a mysleli, že za pár let to bude lepší. Bohužel je to horší a teď pracujeme i 15 hodin denně, takže začátky jsou vždy těžké. Než se dostanete na určitou úroveň, kdy je firma nastartovaná a vy už řešíte pouze klienty.

Vojta: Pokud založíte firmu, tak s touhle pracovní morálkou nepřestanete, dokud se nezblázníte, nezkrachujete, nebo neodejdete do důchodu, ale je to skvělý pocit.

Jaké vybavení používáte?

Štěpán: Ze sofware využíváme především sadu Adobe CS4 Design Premium. Většina designu tak vzniká ve Photoshopu CS4 nebo v Illustratoru CS4, v současné době ale také sledujeme mladší a dynamičtější konkurenci jako je Pixelmator. Z hardware jsou to pak zkalibrované monitory Dell, tablety Wacom, notebooky Apple MacBook Pro, klasické PC stanice a samozřejmě tužky a papíry.

Jakým způsobem jste získávali své první zakázky? Měli jste nějak rozdělené role? Vím, že na začátku je nejtěžší ulovit několik prvních zákazníků.

Vojta: Už než jsme založili studio, tak jsme měli každý na kontě pár zakázek, takže jsme měli co ukázat. Pokud ale začínáte úplně od nuly, vždycky se najde najde nějaký příbuzný, který potřebuje udělat letáček, nebo sousedka co stříhá psy a chce internetovou prezentaci zadarmo. Na začátku si nemůžete moc vybírat, lepší udělat web za pětistovku a mít referenci, než mít prázdné kapsy.

Kdy se vám povedlo získat prvního významného zákazníka, u kterého jste si řekli: "jo, to je přesně ono!"

Vojta: Já myslím, že na toho zlatého zákazníka ještě čekáme. Sice jsme pracovali na projektech pro firmy jako Adidas, Microsoft, Sony, atd., ale to opojení nad velikostí nebo jménem klienta trvá jenom chvilku. Myslím si, že si tohle můžeme říct, až s těmito zákazníky začneme budovat dlouhodobá parterství, ale k tomu máme před sebou ještě dlouhou cestu. To nejdůležitější je ale neusnout na vavřínech a nepřecenit síly, když už se Vám povede se dostat k velké zakázce. Musíte naopak makat o to víc, abyste se udrželi. Jedna z našich partnerských agentur na tohle právě dojela, když získala jako klienta American Express, během třičtvrtě roku byla firma v konkurzu.

Štěpán: Pokud získáte velké jméno a Vašim cílem je dlouhodobé partnerství, musíte mít špičkový servis a technickou podporu 24 hodin denně. Na to potřebujete zaměstnance a stabilní firmu. Finančně, to co v závěru získáte za servis a správu je daleko víc než za vytvoření samotného projektu, protože peníze Vám tečou pravidelně na účet třeba několik let.

Na vašich stránkách je uvedena i adresa v Londýně, znamená to, že jste pronikli i na tamní trh? Jak jste to provedli?

Vojta: Jelikož žiju a trávím vetšinu času v Anglii, tak hledat tamní klienty není tak složité, jako kdyby ryze česká firma zkoušela proniknout na zahraniční trh. Důležitá jsou pro naši práci v Londýně partnerství s dalšími agenturami, s kterými si navzájem pomáháme.

Štěpán: V dnešní době to již není problém, podnikat v několika státech naráz. Máme Evropskou Unii a levné letenky, takže pokud potřebujete zaletět na jednání do Londýna, je to otázka několika hodin. Samozřejmě je vždy velmi důležité mít konexe a znát správné lidi, jak v Čechách, tak kdekoli jinde, pak se prosadíte vždy mnohem rychleji a snadněji. To, že Vojta zná v Londýně mnoho lidí v oboru nám velice pomohlo dostat se k větším projektům.

Vojta: Do budoucna chceme, vytvořit kvalitní tým lidí tady v Čechách, kteří budou vytvářet zahraniční projekty, protože kreativita Čechů je stejná, ne-li lepší než v těch nejvyspělejších zemích. Jsou tam ale také vysoké náklady.

Jak jste oslovovali na začátku (bez referencí) své potenciální zákazníky?

Vojta: Začali jsme s malými firmami, kterým šlo hlavně o to, aby byla práce odvedená za minimální náklady, takže nám tu šanci dali. Slovo se ale rychle roznese a pak najednou začnou lidi oslovovat Vás. Tenhle problém jsme ale v době, kdy jsme studio zakládali už neměli.

Štěpán: Pokud jste začínající designer bez referencí, myslím si, že není problém vytvořit si portfolio založené na osobní práci. Jediné, co Vás to stojí, je čas. Můžete vytvořit osobní internetovou prezentaci, logo nebo vizitky. Bohužel většina lidí přijde a myslí si, že budou hned dělat pro velké korporace a za mnoho peněz, chtějí přeskočit několik etap ve vývoji, to ale nejde.

Který informační kanál považujete při oslovování zákazníků za primární?

Vojta: Můžete sice mít skvělý marketing a account handlery, kteří hledají nové klienty uplně všude, ale jediná osvědčená taktika je odvést skvělou práci. Spokojený klient se rád chlubí, je to nejlepší a nejlevnější způsob, jak se o Vás a o Vaší práci lidi a potenciální zákaznící dozví.

Štěpán: A na tom je založená filozofie naší firmy. Když říkám, že zákaznící oslovují nás, tak nepřeháním. Zatím jsme opravdu nepotřebovali vlastní reklamu a v současné době máme objednávky na půl roku dopředu. Pokud jste "dobří", tak si Vás klienti najdou, opravdu to funguje.

Jakou zakázku považujete v dosavadní práci za nejzajímavější a proč?

Štěpán: Nemůžu říct, že bych některou ze zakázek považoval za nejzajímavější. Obecně mám ale raději projekty pro menší firmy, protože se zde můžete víc seberealizovat. Větší klienti Vám dají nadiktovaný seznam požadavků a to vás samozřejmě omezí hned na začátku, na víc jsou často spíše konzervativní a nejsou nakloněni inovacím. Pak se pro kreativního člověka stává práce nudnou, protože musí obkreslovat dodanou šablonu, o které není ani přesvědčen, že to je věc, která by klientovi přinesla profit.

Vojta: To co říká Štěpán platí hlavně v Čechách, v Londýně teď nastává éra mladých manažerů, kteří vedou reklamní oddělění velkých firem a jsou daleko tvárnější, než Češi. Zajímavost pro mě většinou často vychází z klienta a z jeho jednání. Nejzajímavější práce pro mě potom je od klienta, který toho o našem řemesle hodně ví (ne jenom naoko jako většina) a my ho musíme přesvědčit, že fakt víme, co děláme a že to děláme dobře. Z takových klientů se pak stávají dlouhodobí partneři.

Kam jste se za poslední rok posunuli? V čem a co k tomu vedlo?

Štěpán: Posunuli jsme se daleko, protože je to něco málo přes rok, co jsme založili studio. Naučili jsme se mnoho nových věcí. Já se soustředil například na vektorovou grafiku, ve které jsem měl velké nedostatky a také hlavně na internetový marketing. V podstatě dokážeme ve dvou lidech nabídnout kompletní full-service - služby na které mají v jiných agentůrách třeba 15 specialistů. Musíte si klást cíle a také je plnit, protože jinak budete stagnovat a v oboru který je snad nejdynamičtější a nejrychleji se rozvíjející Vám to zlomí vaz. Navíc design je móda a pokaždé frčí něco jiného, proto musíte sledovat konkurenci, časopisy, internet nebo oblečení a celkově celou společnost, jen tak můžete být neustále aktuální.

Kde berete inspiraci? Kam chodíte na nápady?

Štěpán: Určitě využívám internetové galerie, je to nejrychlejší a nejpohodlnější způsob, jak se dostat každý den k aktuálním materiálům. Z nich bych zmínil především creattica.com, theinspirationroom.com a thebestdesigns.com. Pak velmi často využívám časopisy. Moje nejoblíbenější jsou Computer Arts a CA projects, jedná se o londýnské časopisy, které mohu doporučit každému designerovi, protože jejich obsah je v každém čísle velmi kvalitní. Obecně, inspirace je vše kolem nás, je důležité si všímat detailů v běžném životě a ty pak promítat do specifických projektů. Nápady? Tak to opravdu nevím, pravděpodobně člověk musí být kreativní od narození. Řekl bych, že naučit se to nedá.

Co byste doporučili začínajícímu designérovi pro úplný začátek?

Štěpán: Aby dělal každou práci na 200% a vždy se snažil, aby výstup byl v maximální kvalitě i na úkor nezaplaceného času, který nad projektem stráví. Na začátku je důležité věnovat alespoň 3/4 času učením se nových věcí a zdokonolováním svých schopností. To je investice, která se každému určitě vrátí. I když budete uznávaný po celém světě a bude se Vám zdát, že jste na vrcholu, stále se musíte učit a zlepšovat, jinak Vás ostatní převálcují, protože je zde mnoho hladových lidí, kteří čekají na svůj úspěch.
